      About

"Ukiyo" means to forget one's worries and live in the moment, and that is what this Japanese omakase restaurant hopes to evoke in its diners. The protagonist of Ukiyo, chef Bas Sirawut, has spent 20 years learning and mastering the art of sushi and kaiseki, and only uses the freshest ingredients from around the world.

The space is intimate, with only several seats surrounding an open kitchen island so you can watch the chefs execute dish after dish perfectly. There’s nothing like watching scallops being flame-grilled over a binchotan, or seeing fresh cuts of sashimi being sliced before your eyes. Each omakase meal spans 13 courses, featuring a range of sashimi, sushi, grilled meats, soups, and dessert.

Dishes like the White and Red Fish Tartare, a combination of Japanese and French cuisine, showcase the chef's creativity, while those like chutoro sushi place a heavy emphasis on the ingredients' natural flavours. With great food and even better service, the gastronomical experience at Ukiyo won't be one you'll forget anytime soon. (December 2019)
