About
A beautiful mural of tropical fronds greets you as you enter KARA, and its tasteful, pastel-dominated décor, lined with soft wooden panels and walls, will lull you into quiet repose. It looks almost like a quiet Scandinavian café, and the food here, healthy, comforting, and full of robust flavours, recall breezy beachside picnics. Tuck into complex salads like the Tofu Kale Salad, wobbly chunks of tofu crowning a bed of crunchy, bittersweet kale, all brought together by a creamy, nutty Thai sauce. Nuts also dominate in the Coco Cashew Grainbowl, a variation on everyone’s healthy lunch craze du jour: the bowl is a toss up of rich cashews, cherry tomatoes, kale, and fluffy quinoa. Instant comfort comes in the form of a Truffle Shroom Toasties, perfect grilled, Panini-style sandwiches stuffed with minced, truffle-kissed mushrooms and cheese. For something a little naughtier, get the Korean Wings, beautifully juicy chicken wings in a Korean soy glaze. Dessert here is a wholly more indulgent affair: think their specialty warm skillet cookie, a massive cookie cooked into a hot pan that’s served with an inviting swirl of nut-covered soft-serve ice cream. Buttery, sweet, and rich, perfect with some coffee to round off a satisfying day out. (Jun 2017)
